A smart scale does one useful thing a regular scale cannot: it logs every weigh-in automatically, so you see a trend instead of a single number. The choice comes down to three things: how much body data you actually want, which health app you already use, and how many people share the scale. Wi-Fi models sync without your phone; Bluetooth models are cheaper but need your phone nearby. These 8 smart scales are real models sold on Amazon, sorted by use case and budget.
Best Overall Smart Scale
The Withings Body+ is the scale most people end up recommending. It reads weight and body composition, syncs over Wi-Fi without needing your phone nearby, and works with Apple Health and Google Fit. If you want one scale that just works, start here.

How to Choose
- Check app compatibility first. Make sure the scale syncs with Apple Health, Google Fit, Garmin Connect or Fitbit, whichever you already use.
- Decide on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Wi-Fi scales sync on their own; Bluetooth scales are cheaper but need the app open.
- Treat body fat numbers as trends. Consumer scales estimate body composition. Watch the direction over weeks rather than any single reading.
- Weigh under the same conditions. Same time of day, same spot on a hard floor, similar clothing. Consistency matters more than the model.
- Count the users. If several people share the scale, pick one with multiple profiles so histories do not mix.
